

What were your intentions for the character when you started the project? What specific elements of both Tony Stark's character and back-story did you feel needed to be modernized, streamlined or even eliminated entirely (besides updating the context of his origin from the Vietnam War to the first Gulf War)? Warren Ellis: I think it first came up in conversation with Joe Quesada. IGN Comics: Warren, with Extremis, you were given the rare opportunity to update – and in some cases re-imagine – an iconic, company-owned superhero character for a new generation. Extremis might be one of those things to distract you while those long, long days slip away.
